THROWBACK THURSDAYS 13
Mighty, mighty, MIGHTY MAN! and his dog YUKK was a cartoon aired in 1979 on ABC during the Plastic Man hour. I had to dig deep in my animated mental archive for this one. Not many remember this show, but it was one that had me glued to the screen when I was a kid. This show was produce by Ruby-Spears Productions The concept went like this...Mighty Man was really millionaire Brandon Brewster, but when he hit himself with his--umm--Mighty Man Ray, he'd shrink to less than a foot tall and gain super-strength and the ability to fly. Yukk was Mighty Man's dog. He walked around on his back legs and wore a little doghouse over his head because he was the ugliest dog in the world. Anytime he took off his doghouse, sirens and screams would be heard, and anyone within eyeshot would be severely traumatized by the experience. He was so ugly, he could even destroy inanimate objects. That's really damn ugly!
What a great cartoon concept. The voice of Yukk was classic as well. I wish I could get this great cartoon along with the rest of the Plastic Man line up on DVD somehow. My search is on. In the meantime, I'll just add this throwback with the rest of my fav's into my classic cartoon limbo.

Holy cow! I remember this cartoon. Well, actually I don't remember much about the Mighty Man part, but the character of Yukk seems to have embedded himself into my memory banks permanently.
You weren't kidding when you said you dug deep for this one. I don't think I've tackled any cartoon characters this obscure--yet.
Another terrific reinterpretation, saxton.
This is great. I completely forgot about this toon. Nice rendition. :)
I'm glad someone remembered this one. I thought I would be all alone. ^_^
I am desperately trying to find some clips or VHS' copies of the show. The series was crazy funny.
I don't think these have been on tv since they originally aired. I remember liking this show quite a bit, until Plastic Man was saddled with a kid. This trend was, what for me the ruin of animated tv shows until Batman: The Animated Series.
Never saw the show, but I do remember that dog.
The cartoon was created and produced by Joe Ruby and Ken Spears for their own studio, who created "Scooby Doo" and the remarkably similar "Dynomutt" for Hanna-Barbera. "Mighty Man and Yukk" were part of the 2-hour "Plastic Man Show" on ABC in 1979.
MightyMan was voiced by Peter Cullen who crooned like Bing Crosby when he spoke for no reason.
Similiarities to "Dynomutt":
Frank Welker used the same goofy voice as Yukk and Dynomutt.
Yukk and Dynomutt were bumbling, often goofing up in the first try in catching the bad guys...but succeeding in their second attempt.
Mighty Man and Blue Falcon had millionaire alter-egos.
Both hero teams battled gimmicky costume crooks.
Not bad for a cartoon when Saturday AM cartoons depicted superheroes to be played for laughs to fit pro-social watchdog guidelines.
