Countdown to Halloween / 10

Before you go out to Trick or Treat
Beware the leaves beneath your feet
For they have watched you all year 'round
the ones who make the rustling sound.
Fall has brought them death and now
thousands fall onto the ground
You may blow and you may rake
But they'll return to seal your fate
So hold a hand and peal your eyes
cause on that night the leaves will RISE
If the lawn you cross, you hear a crunch
it just may be that you're their lunch
Don't slip and fall, they'll wrap you tight
So watch your step this Hallow's night.

An animated blast from the past. Throwback Thursdays

Sorry for the lack of posts. In the spirit of Throwback Thursdays, here's an old commercial I directed for Cartoon Network. In this spot, Spike the dog and wolf are paramedics for cartoon stars. I really had fun animating that truck.

WE DID IT!!!!!

we finally reached our goal, and then some. I am so so grateful for those who helped contribute. We couldn't have done it without you. I want to thank all of my dear friends, family and those of you who believed in this project as much as we did. It's such a blessing to have people like you in our corner. I am so elated right now. I can't believe we did it! Just to let you know, any additional funds we raise will be used to take our book to conferences and conventions. I will be putting in our print order for the book next week and I will keep posting updates on the process. We really appreciate all of you so much for your help in making this dream come true.

Celebrating Explorers who've made history on Nickelodeon

This is a postcard I designed (above) to celebrate the new explorer spots my studio animated now airing on Nick jr. These spots were done in the same style as the Black History Month interstitials that I've posted about here before. I had a to of fun illustrating these. I get a lot of kids from my childrens school who have said they've seen these spots. It's a good feeling to know that your work is not only being recognized, but educating as well. Watch Nickelodeon to catch the actual interstitials on the famous explorers below.

BILLY JO/ No JIVE No color

I know this Throwback deserves more color than what I've posted, but the truth is I'm on a deadline. I will have to go back over it and do it some justice later. Just wanted to make sure I had something for this Thursdays post. Billy Jo Jive and Smart Suzy Sunset was one of my favorite segments on Sesame Street. I believe they only produced 3 episodes, "WRONG WAY WILLIE" ,"BAD NEWS BARTON" and "HAUNTED HOUSE"
There's also a really cool article about Ray Favata online. He's the guy who animated Billy Jo Jive, and then some. Click HERE for the article.

Throwback Thursdays returns (for now)

Welcome to the Gleek club. Gleek was a blue "space monkey" and the pet of Zan and Jayna, the Wonder Twins. Gleek was often used as comic relief for the animated series Super Friends. Gleek was also known for his bizarre space monkey gibberish.

Here's a Spongebob 10 year Anniversary poster I designed some time ago in my Throwback Thursday style. Not quite a Throwback yet, but he's a future contender.

My first indy kids book is almost done.

Here is a spot illustration I did today for my first independent kids book. It's been literally 7 years in the making (off and on) of me trying to get this book done. Thanks to a few of my close friends for helping me out here and there as well as them urging me to finish. I'm finally nearing the end. I'll be posting more updates as I finish things up. For now enjoy the new art.

B&E Paintings

Here's a before pic of 2 paintings I'm working on.
This is the final result. Bert & Earnie on canvas. I originally did 2 other paintings in this style on wood (one being on a broken chair back). They both sold, so I wanted to recreate them once again. Here are the original pieces that sold...

Nick Jr/ Suzan Lori Parks – Playwright

Nickelodeon Celebrates Black History Month
“Meet Suzan-Lori Parks! When she was a little girl, she visited lots of libraries, read tons of books, and wrote oodles of stories… because she wanted to be a writer!”

“When Suzan-Lori grew up, she’d read her stories out loud, and act like all the different people she made up, just like actors do in a play! So she wrote more and more stories. Once, she even wrote a story every day for a whole year! Pretty soon, people were acting them out on street corners and stages. Now her stories are performed all over the world!
For Suzan-Lori Parks, ‘all the world is a stage!
Below are a couple of early storyboard samples.

Here's a postcard design I did real quick to help brand my studio. Playing around with cute pirate imagery. I even changed the logo a bit to make it a little more loose. I'm still trying to explore ideas and this is just the start.

Coffee Pirate

Experimenting with coffee on watercolor paper. Haven't drawn anything on paper for a while, so I decided to jump start my creativity by exploring a new medium.
