Today's throwback is a cereal throwback. Though I never ate Quisp cereal as a kid, I've always been a fan of the Jay Ward commercials. I didn't have much time to ink or color these, so I'm just posting the sketches for now.
The great Daws Butler played Quisp's voice. Jay Ward Productions had the contract to animated Quaker product commercials including Quaker cereals and Aunt Jemima frozen waffles in the 1970s.
Quisp's rival was the burly "Quake" who looked like a construction worker first and then changed into a cowboy.
I ate mostly Cheerios, Alpha Bits, and Kellogg's Frosted Flakes (Tony Tiger) as a kid.
I had my share of Quisp as a kid. There were so many cereals with fun mascots that are no longer around. I was a huge fan of Hoots (with a cartoon owl on the box, Pink Panther Flakes, Freakies, and Crazy Cow.
Oh...and Spumco did the Quisp site a few years ago...quisp.com
