Someone in the comments section asked why there weren't any African Americans in the Flintstones world. Within my mental log of cartoon imagery I distinctly remember seeing something of this nature, then I had to track it down to share with you all. I present to you the "BLACKSTONES" (and I thought the first photo was bizarre)
I remember this place as I was road-tripping through the badlands of South Dakota a few years ago... some sort of Flinstoney theme park that looked like it hadn't been renovated since the 50's.

Brandon- Yes there were Black people in Bedrock. Concepted at least. I've seen a picture of the concept somewhere. I gotta do some researching to find it, then I'll post it.

ReplyDeleteHanna-Barbera had planned a 70s-era "Flintstones"-spin off cartoon titled "The Blackstones" which featured a black family who were neighbors of Fred and Wilma Flintstone. There were conceptual drawings in a "hardcover" "Flintstones" program history book in the 1990s.
ReplyDeleteThe husband was short like Barney Rubble and somewhat tempermental and his wife was similar to Wilma as the voice of reason. The family had a teen daughter and a pet dinosaur.
Stories probably would have portrayed Fred as an Archie Bunker-like hothead who clashed with Mr. Blackstone on various issues and who eventually reached some amicable resolution to the conflict with comedic results. It was never picked up as a series.
There was "OJ Simpstone" the coach in the 1980s "Flintstones Comedy Show" who taught some fun exercises in short segments. He was voiced by Buster Jones who played "Black Vulcan" on "The Superfriends".

Trying to figure out what's going on with my parents' PC...every so often they can hear a radio broadcast from their PC speakers. Always some infomercial or asian talk show. I've tried going through all their running programs, removed the extension cords, disconnected the broadband but you can still hear it. This just started a few months ago. I've run virus scans, AdAware, HijackThis, etc. coming up with nothing every time. They haven't moved and there are no new radio stations in the area, everything has been the same for the last 6 years up until now.
