THROWBACK THURSDAYS 11

You gots ta CHILL. Chilly Willy Was a cool character that was always in search of a way to stay warm. This Cartune character was one of many toons created by Walter Lantz. I did this one on a sticky note pad, and then quickly colored it in photoshop. Trying to keep it real simple.

Another popular Walter Lantz character was Woody Woodpecker. I sketched these 3 poses in my sketchbook, then touched them with a little color in photoshop.

"Ha-ha-ha haaah-ha!"

HOLY TOLEDO! The Amazing John K. has started a blog. He's one of my top insperatons for wacky cartoons. Go over and shower him with comments. all kinds of stuff

  1. I always kinda liked the old-style "super-manic" Woody. (But he did scare me, a bit.)

  2. Very nice. I agree with Phillip, the pre-hair (feather) gel Woody is the preferred bird. His craziness seemed genuine, and that blank look to his eyes did give him a real touch of menace.

Your Chilly Willy should immediately be turned into a vinyl toy, preferably with a squeeker inside.

  3. Your Chilly Willy has lots of attitude in his shape. I think all he needs now is a "laser igloo"...

It's been many a year since I've seen Woody Woodpecker or Chilly Willy.

  6. Chilly Willy is still alive...as a mascot for ice cream products for the Walgreens' drug store chain.

Cute theme song in his cartoons.
