THROWBACK THURSDAYS 25

In my childhood, popeye gave me confidence. He also made me believe that I could take out any bully at school. lol.

Below is one of my all time favorite episodes.

And let's not forget the black and white classics...

I also have to torture y'all with some of this...

I actually think that this is one of the best examples of the transition from cartoon to live action. If you don't agree, comment and give me a better example.

THROWBACK THURSDAYS 23

FANGFACE
This show was one of my favorites as a kid. It aired on ABC/1978-79. Sherman "Fangs" Fangsworth who's a cowardly teenager turns into a werewolf ("Fangface") when the moon is full. Along with his three teenage friends (Biff, Kim & Puggsy), he investigates mysteries and handles the day-to-day troubles that confront him in high school. The funny thing is, that if he sees even a picture of the sun as a werewolf, he would change back to Sherman. The show later added a baby cousin who was dubbed "Baby Fangs" aka FANGPUSS. The opening narrative went like this....
Narrator: Fangface! Every 400 years, a baby werewolf is born into the Fangsworth family. And so when the moon shined on little Sherman Fangsworth, he changed into Fangface, a werewolf. Only the sun can change him back to normal. And so little Fangs grew up and teamed up with three daring teenagers: Kim, Biff, and Pugsy. And together they find danger, excitement, and adventure. Who can save the day? Who can wrong the rights, and right the wrongs? None other than Fangface!

CLASS OF 3000 PREMIERE

Tonight marks the premiere of Andre 3000's cartoon "CLASS OF 3000". Tonight on Cartoon Network tune in for some Funky sounds and colorful characters at the red carpet premiere 7pm. I really like the loose wacky poses in the designs of the characters. I'm curious to see how the show plays. I'm also a huge fan of Outkast as well, so I know the music will be a hit. Watch the show and then come back and share your thoughts in the comments section.

Crappy Charicature

Jorge Lacera did a really BAD sketch of me yesterday, so I retaliated by doing an awfull digital sketch of him in illustrator. I'm not very good at drawing with the wacom tablet yet, so I decided to practice with Jorge's face. Below is a vectored image I created of ROCK LEE from my favorite action cartoon "NARUTO". I was testing out printing on postal stickers, came out pretty cool.

Sketching at MIT

I came across this digital sketching clip shown over at the WOOSTER COLLECTIVE site. It seems to be a sketching lecture over at MIT. Really cool software concept. I thought I'd share it.

If you thought that was cool, peep the I/O brush from MIT. These guys are genius. I/O Brush looks like a regular physical paintbrush but has a small video camera with lights and touch sensors embedded inside. Outside of the drawing canvas, the brush can pick up color, texture, and movement of a brushed surface. For a more detailed description of this amazing brush CLICK HERE!

RETURN of the THROWBACK THURSDAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know it's been a while since the last throwback, but now I'm back on it. I'm also typing up another interview that will fallow up with another THROWBACK THURSDAYS CONTEST for the month of October. (stay posted) This throwback stuck in my mind as a kid. It was a great concept with a poor cheesy delivery. (as were many 80's cartoons) Turbo teen aired in 1984 with only 12 episodes, but I just couldn't get it out of my head. I was super excited when I saw the saturday morning promos on TV.
Please post comments if any of you remember this show, so I won't feel alone on this one.

Show Summary: Not only was Brett Matthews a great sports car driver, he was also a great sports car! Following an accident in which he crashed into a science lab where a top-secret transfer ray was being developed, Brett had the ability to turn himself into a car whenever his body temperature reached a certain level. Brett trusted no one—aside from his girlfriend Pattie, his buddy Alex, and the federal government—with his chrome-plated secret.
Always an altruistic automobile, the Turbo Teen used his powers for good. Most notably, he battled bad guy Dark Rider and his truck, Bigfoot.

Isn't that thriller instrumental track kind of bizzare?

GRUMPY FREAKSHOW SUBMISSIONS

First and foremost, I gotta thank my family for pulling together this holiday weekend and painting up a bear. This first bear's theme was my wife and daughter's idea. It's a CATBUS from the animated movie "My neighbor Totoro" I helped with the early sketch, but most of the labor was my family. The only thing I handled was the sculpting and drawing the face. Believe it or not, I was only 20% of this project. Hats off to my wonderfully talented FAM.

My 2 budding female artists

This is the completed CHOO CHOO bear. I really like the way he came out. I might have to bust out some sketches of 'em.

I'm participating in a vinyl toy show in Cleveland where a group of artists are painting on a blank Grumpy Bear that I designed. Below is one of my custom pieces. I want it to have a little golden book feel. He's a train engineer named CHOO-CHOO. If you want to see more works in progress by other artists, feel free to swing by the GRUMPY FREAKSHOW BLOG
